still digging ....

Another session of work on the bottom part of the garden has seen the last of the old weed fabric removed and the area mostly dug over
Also for some relief for my back from digging a bit of wood working has been done to make a small work surface/table out of decking parts in the lean-to; just the right height to assemble track sections or fiddle with rolling stock.
Still more to do, next planned job is to get the old weed fabric off the top half of the garden.

The hard work begins ...

First job was to save as much gravel from the old trackbed from the area to be worked on, this was put in an old container - quite a bit recovered which is good.
A couple of plants were saved and moved up towards the top of the garden, this starts a border area off - the intention is that the garden railway will run by it on the right
The main area where all the work was done this weekend, all the old weed fabric removed and the area dug over. Then a gravel section put round the inspection hatch with a couple of pots added.
The next stages will be to remove the weed fabric from the rest of the garden, dig over and start work on a small rockery - digging the trench in places for the new trackbed.

track cutting .... small curve sections

for the new track plan in the garden I needed some smaller curve sections; the LGB track is a 30 degree section; so I decided to cut some spare curves in half - these needed a clean and some new rail joiners. I ran out of rail joiners - waiting for some more to complete this job then it will be on to checking the rest of the track and turnouts.

A little progress ....

A little progress has been made in the back garden; there has been a little delay mostly due to the cold weather; the contractor had to come back relay a couple of loose paving slabs and replace some pointing in the path.

Also the pile of old split logs has been disposed of .

Currently trying to sketch out some track/garden plans ....

Tidying up and clearing away ...

The weather has not been too good over the last couple of months, either too cold or too wet; however I've managed a couple of sessions on the weekends and got some things done; first was to get the last bit of the gravel area properly edged - how it was before
and after - much neater
could do without the small lake (two days of rain) ! - drainage works still needed - probably put in a small soakaway - or maybe a proper pond. The bulk of the buildings are tidied away some in the garage but most up on the paved area by the house...
After clearing away the ornamental rocks we'd used to one place I found that I had a rock border ...
Have dug out the wooden split logs used to edge the old railway line, work has started on digging over the ground...stopped by the return of the rain today ...
All the old rotten split logs now removed and awaiting disposal
At last a splash of colour in the garden the ornamental blossom tree has started to flower ....

Indoor Layout - Trying out my new coaches ...

Sorted through a few bits put to one side from the main garden railway after it was taken up - a station name board was Ok, so I put it on the small station on my indoor layout...
After that I got my new rake of Accucraft coaches out and gave them a run round the indoor layout in the garage, some piccies of the train in various places on the layout - first the main station
At the level crossing ..
and finally crossing the bridge
